Question by Sarah Curran: If two people under the age of consent have sex are there any legal implications?

My friend (no not me) is 16 and her boyfriend is 16. Here in Ireland the age of consent is 17 for both males and females. They had sex a few weeks ago. I was just wondering can statutory rape be charged on either party because it was totally consensual.
